Your body holds on to what your mind tries to push away.
Like no matter how hard you try to forget, your body remembers.
When you've been through something painful - physically, emotionally, or both - it doesn’t just live in your thoughts. It lives in your body.
You might feel stuck, tense, on edge, shut down, or just not like yourself.
Maybe you've tried to “talk it out,” but something still feels off, like your body hasn’t caught up to the healing.
That’s where somatic therapy comes in.
You can release this tension and constriction.
We’re here to help - at your pace.
Who this helps:
Somatic therapy is especially supportive if you:
Feel disconnected from your body or emotions
Live with chronic pain or illness that feels tied to stress or trauma
Struggle with anxiety, panic, or feeling “on edge”
Feel numb, frozen, or checked out
Have tried talk therapy but want something deeper or more embodied
Grew up in chaos, neglect, or emotional confusion
Want to feel safe and present in your own body again
You deserve to feel at home in your body.
You’ve carried so much for so long. Maybe your body has been in survival mode for years. Somatic therapy offers a gentle, supportive way to feel more grounded, less reactive, and more in control of your life.
This isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong” with you - it’s about listening to the wisdom your body has been holding and learning how to respond with tenderness and care.
What is somatic therapy?
Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to healing. Instead of only talking about your experiences, we also pay attention to how they show up in your body - through tension, numbness, a pounding heart, or feeling zoned out.
Somatic simply means “of the body.” These methods help you notice your physical and emotional signals and teach your nervous system how to feel safe again - gently and at your own pace.
You don’t need to be an expert in your body. We’ll learn together.
How it works:
We work with your body’s natural stress and trauma responses to bring you back to a state of regulation or balance. That might mean:
Slowing down and noticing what your body is doing
Exploring where you hold tension, discomfort, or numbness
Practicing grounding and orienting skills that help you feel steady
Supporting you in feeling emotions without becoming overwhelmed
Using breath, movement, or imagery to gently shift stuck patterns
You’ll never be pushed to relive painful memories or talk about anything before you’re ready. We’ll try to stop you if before you get overwhelmed. Instead, we work with the present moment - what your body is saying right now - to begin easing pain that’s been held for too long.
At Regulating Resolutions, our clinicians are expertly trained in approaches that go beyond talk therapy alone. We’ll give you more than simple validation.
What does a somatic session look like?:
A somatic therapy session might include:
Simple check-ins with your body: “What are you noticing right now?” “Where in the body is that feeling?”
Grounding and regulation tools to calm overwhelm
Techniques to help you feel present and steady
Gentle movement, body awareness, and stillness to support connection and integration
Guided imagery or relaxation techniques to ease tension and increase safety
We might talk. We might pause. We might practice small shifts that help your body feel less guarded and more open to healing.
We take care to create a space where nothing is too big, too much, too messy, or too complicated to bring into therapy.
We integrate several science-backed, body-based therapies—always tailored to what you need:
Somatic Experiencing (SE): Helps you process stuck fight/flight/freeze responses without overwhelm, using small steps to restore safety.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: Blends talk therapy with body awareness, helping you make sense of how your body holds trauma and adapt with new patterns.
Hakomi (Mindfulness-Based Somatic Therapy): Uses curiosity and compassion to explore how your experiences live in your body and shape your identity.
Polyvagal-Informed Therapy: Based on the nervous system science of connection and protection. Helps you shift from fight-or-flight to a state of calm, presence, and safety.
Mindfulness-, Movement and Energy-Based Tools: Supports body connection, emotional regulation, and self-compassion - especially helpful for chronic stress, pain, or illness.
