Hakomi Mindfulness-Centered Somatic Psychotherapy
What is Hakomi Mindfulness-Centered Somatic Psychotherapy and how can it help me?
Hakomi is a gentle, body-centered therapy that helps you explore the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. It’s especially helpful if you’ve ever felt like your body holds tension, emotions, or memories that you don’t fully understand. By combining mindfulness (focused, nonjudgmental awareness) and somatic (body-based) techniques, Hakomi helps you discover unconscious beliefs and patterns that may be affecting your current emotions and relationships.
What does a session look like?
In a Hakomi session, your therapist will guide you to slow down and pay mindful attention to what’s happening inside—like tightness in your chest, warmth in your belly, or images and feelings that arise when talking about something important. You might be asked gentle questions like, “What’s that sensation trying to say?” or “What does it remind you of?” Sometimes you might express emotions through movement or sound if that feels right. The pace is slow and respectful, letting your body and mind lead the way.
How does it help?
It helps you become more aware of how your body responds to emotions and beliefs.
You can uncover core beliefs that may be holding you back (like “I’m not enough” or “I have to stay in control”).
Expressing emotions through the body often leads to relief, insight, and healing.
You develop a deeper, more compassionate understanding of yourself—beyond just words or thoughts.
Hakomi helps you listen to your body’s wisdom so you can understand yourself more deeply, shift old patterns, and feel more emotionally free. It’s a gentle and powerful way to heal by tuning in to what’s going on inside, one moment at a time.
