Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)/Tapping
What is EFT/Tapping, and how can it help me?
EFT, or Tapping, is a mind-body technique that helps you calm your nervous system and work through difficult emotions by gently tapping on specific points on your body (like the side of your hand or above your eyebrows) while talking about something that’s bothering you.
It’s kind of like a mix of talk therapy, acupressure, and mindfulness. You don’t need any special equipment, and once you learn it, you can use it on your own anytime you feel anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed.
What kinds of things can EFT help with?
Anxiety or stress
Physical symptoms tied to emotions (like headaches, stomach tension, or tightness in the chest)
Negative beliefs or self-doubt
Painful memories or upsetting thoughts
Performance anxiety or fear of failure
What happens in a session?
Your therapist will:
Help you identify a specific emotion, situation, or memory that’s causing you distress (e.g., “I feel like I’m not good enough at work”).
Ask you to rate how strong the feeling is on a scale from 0 to 10.
Guide you through a tapping sequence where you tap on a series of points on your face and body while saying simple, supportive phrases that acknowledge how you’re feeling.
Check in with you afterward to see how your body and emotions have shifted.
What does it feel like?
Most people feel more relaxed, calm, and grounded after a few rounds of tapping. You may notice physical tension ease up (like a headache softening or stomach tightness easing), and your distress rating—what’s called the SUDs (Subjective Units of Distress) scale—may drop significantly.
EFT helps you release emotional and physical stress by combining talk and touch in a simple, gentle process. It can help you feel better in your body, calm your mind, and respond to life’s challenges with more resilience. And the best part is—you can learn to do it yourself whenever you need a reset.
