Intuitive & Attuned Eating

What is Intuitive & Attuned Eating, and how can it help me?

Intuitive/Attuned Eating is a therapy approach that helps you reconnect with your body’s natural signals—like hunger, fullness, and cravings—so you can have a healthier, more peaceful relationship with food.

Instead of following strict food rules, counting calories, or obsessing over what you “should” or “shouldn’t” eat, this approach encourages you to trust your body and eat in a way that feels satisfying and balanced—physically and emotionally.

It’s especially helpful if you’ve struggled with:

  • Chronic dieting or the “yo-yo” effect

  • Emotional or binge eating

  • Feeling guilty or anxious about food

  • Body image issues or disordered eating patterns

What will I get out of this therapy?

You’ll learn to:

  • Let go of strict food rules that create guilt and shame

  • Listen to your body’s cues for hunger and fullness

  • Enjoy food again without labeling it “good” or “bad”

  • Build self-compassion and reduce negative self-talk

  • Feel more in control around food by not controlling it through restriction

What happens in a session?

Your therapist might:

  • Help you notice any “food rules” you’ve picked up (like not eating after a certain time, or avoiding whole food groups) and explore where they came from.

  • Talk with you about how dieting or restriction has impacted your physical and emotional well-being.

  • Guide you in experimenting with eating in response to hunger—not to rules—and noticing how that feels.

  • Help you explore fears around losing control and support you in learning that your body is trustworthy and wise.

Intuitive Eating helps you make peace with food and your body. You’ll stop obsessing over what you eat, and start tuning in to what your body actually needs—without guilt, fear, or pressure. Over time, you’ll feel more relaxed around food, more confident in your choices, and more connected to your body’s wisdom.

This approach may not be appropriate for those with an active eating disorder. Prospective clients or clients with an active eating disorder will be referred to clinicians who specialize in working with people with eating disorders.
