Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
What is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and how can it help me?
CBT is a structured, goal-oriented form of therapy that helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. When you're feeling anxious, down, or stuck in unhelpful patterns, CBT teaches you how to notice the automatic thoughts that may be fueling those feelings and how to shift them into something more balanced and helpful.
It’s one of the most widely used and well-researched therapies for depression, anxiety, stress, and many other issues.
What does a session look like?
In a CBT session, you and your therapist might start by talking about a recent situation that brought up distress. Your therapist will help you notice the thoughts that automatically came up in that moment—like assuming the worst or thinking in extremes—and explore how those thoughts made you feel or act.
You’ll learn to identify patterns in your thinking and work together to reframe them in a way that reduces emotional distress and supports healthier behavior. You may also be given tools or exercises to practice between sessions.
How does it help?
You become more aware of negative thought patterns and how they affect your mood and decisions.
You learn practical tools to challenge and change unhelpful beliefs.
You start to feel more in control of your emotional responses.
Over time, you build confidence in your ability to handle difficult thoughts or situations more effectively.
CBT helps you understand and change the thinking habits that keep you stuck. By learning how to shift your mindset and respond differently, you gain clarity, emotional relief, and practical skills to navigate everyday challenges with more confidence.
