Attachment-Based Therapy
What is Attachment-Based Therapy, and how can it help me?
Attachment-Based Psychotherapy helps you understand how your early relationships—especially with caregivers like parents—shape the way you feel, think, and relate to others now. These early bonds influence how safe or connected you feel in relationships, how you handle emotions, and even how you see yourself.
If you’ve had tough or inconsistent experiences growing up, it might affect things like:
Trusting others or feeling close
Handling fears of being abandoned or rejected
Managing your emotions in relationships
Knowing what you need and asking for it
This therapy creates a safe space where you can explore those early experiences, understand how they impact your current relationships, and start healing old wounds. It helps you build healthier ways to connect with yourself and others.
What will I get out of this therapy?
You’ll learn to:
Recognize your attachment styles—patterns in how you relate to others (for example, do you tend to pull away when you feel overwhelmed, or get anxious when someone is distant?)
Understand the connection between your childhood and your current relationships
Identify triggers that cause strong emotional reactions (like feeling abandoned or rejected)
Develop new ways to communicate your needs and feel secure in relationships
Heal emotional wounds on both a feeling level and through your body’s reactions
What happens in a session?
Your therapist will:
Talk with you about your early relationships with caregivers to help you see patterns that might still affect you today.
Help you notice when old attachment wounds are being triggered in your current relationships.
Work with you on strategies to manage these triggers, so you don’t feel stuck in old patterns like withdrawing or pushing people away.
Support you in building a stronger, more secure connection to yourself and to others.
Attachment-Based Psychotherapy helps you heal the past to have better relationships now. It’s about understanding where your feelings and reactions come from and learning how to feel safer, more connected, and more confident in your relationships.
